AEW Revolution 2026: 10 biggest takeaways from a night that may change AEW forever
· Yahoo Sports
AEW Revolution 2026 lived up to its reputation Sunday night at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles. Titles changed hands, Ronda Rousey shockingly debuted, Will Ospreay, Adam Copeland and Christian Cage returned, and MJF ended “Hangman” Adam Page’s chance of competing for the world title again.
As we pick up the pieces from AEW Revolution, here’s 10 takeaways from a wild night in Los Angeles.

1. Oops, they did it again
“Adam” Hangman Page can never challenge for the AEW World Championship again. Sunday's Texas Deathmatch was both grisly and devastating as MJF and Page pulled out all the stops. Eventually, MJF choked Page over the top rope with a double dog collar, allowing the champion to retain his belt and ending Page’s chances of competing for the title again.
It’s a stunning dynamic for AEW, a promotion in which Page has played such a critical role in recent years. A similar plan crashed and burned when Cody Rhodes suffered under the same stipulation years ago. Unless Page is planning to step away for the foreseeable future, boxing AEW's biggest babyface into this stipulation feels shortsighted and unnecessary as a means to bolster MJF’s title run.
2. Darby and Gabe go to war
The Dogs have brought absolute chaos to AEW in recent weeks, and that spilled directly into Sunday’s show. The rivalry between Darby Allin and Gabe Kidd took center stage — Allin was tied to the turnbuckle, eventually escaped, and then zip-tied Kidd to the entrance ramp.
While Orange Cassidy scored the pinfall over Clark Connors, Allin and Kidd’s issues won’t be settled until Wednesday when they face off in a casket match on "AEW Dynamite." The match largely served to propel Allin and Kidd’s feud forward, but it left Cassidy a bit in no man’s land. A former champion in his own right, Cassidy has seemed to have floundered a bit without clear direction.
At times, it feels like AEW has too many mouths to feed. When characters like Cassidy, who haven’t quite reached the top of the mountain, lose clear direction, it can hurt their longterm stature.

3. Andrade keeps rolling
Andrade El Idolo has had one of 2026's best starts in the entire wrestling world, earning high-octane wins over Swerve Strickland, Kenny Omega, and now Bandido. In a brawl that started heavy, led to both men removing their tearaway pants, and ended with Andrade getting his hand raised, both men did plenty to raise their stocks with another outstanding match.
There wasn’t much to sink our teeth into from a story perspective, but it’s important to note Bandido has now lost his second AEW match in as many outings. Despite his standing as the ROH World Champion and despite being someone earmarked for a sustained run at the top this year, it continues to be a challenge to envision how Bandido can evolve into a top AEW guy.
4. Ready, Jet, GO
Just two weeks after losing the trios championship, JetSpeed was awarded the opportunity to reclaim their AEW gold alongside new partner, Mistico. The lucha legend took the spotlight as the trio made their entrance, and was at the center of their celebration after they won back the titles.
Mistico makes all the sense in the world as the third man for this trios group, as they took turns flying around the ring Sunday night with precision. Mark Davis was also exceptional, showcasing legitimate big-man wrestling by lifting and tossing opponents with ease.
Overall, the match was solid and entertaining, but do have to question whether matches like this are the best use of a talent like Kazuchika Okada. It’s certainly better than him and Kyle Fletcher being left off the card entirely. With returning talent and a roster as exceptional as AEW’s, it’ll continue to be a challenge on how stories are balanced to keep each of these stars engaged.
Perhaps the biggest news of the night falls back on Mistico, who was announced as an official member of the AEW roster after his win. It’s another big move for AEW, which has not so quietly loaded up quite the roster.

5. Statlander needs some backup
Thekla’s world championship victory came almost out of nowhere, but the belt has settled nicely on her shoulders. A combination of technical precision and absolute chaos, Thekla has hit the ground running as the face of AEW's women’s division after bumping Kris Statlander to the side.
Thekla’s first major test Sunday night was cleared in a way that elevates her while keeping Statlander at arm’s length. Tasked with a grueling Two-Out-Of-Three-Falls Match, the pace of this one picked up with each fall — Thekla stealing one with a rope-assisted roll-up, Statlander responding with Sunday Night Fever, and Thekla ultimately winning with help from the Sisters of Sin.
With the loss, it wouldn’t be a total surprise to see Statlander lean into some support from the likes of the Babes of Wrath, as the current odds appear quite clearly stacked against her.
6. The summer of Swerve
Swerve Strickland’s sudden transition into AEW’s ultimate bad guy has opened a world of opportunities for matchups, considering much of the magic from his rivalry against “Hangman” Adam Page came from nefarious tactics and absolute brutality.
That mean streak is back in full effect, and was on display in his Revolution showdown against Brody King. Two of the roster’s stars played perfectly off each other, as King wrestled with unique agility for a man his size and Strickland showed the strength to compete with nearly any opponent. The win — and subsequent threat to beat King further — provided the perfect space for Kenny Omega’s return and what should prove to be a hallmark rivalry at minimum throughout the summer.

7. Tag-team domination
After she was unable to claim the TBS Championship earlier in the evening, Lena Cross made good on her second chance at AEW gold, taking advantage of an injury Willow Nightingale suffered earlier in the evening to claim the Women’s World Tag Team Championship alongside Megan Bayne.
As fun as the Babes of Wrath are, I’d love to see Nightingale focus on singles action as she eventually elevates back to the main-event scene. Simultaneously, having Cross and Bayne take the tag titles adds a fresh dynamic to the division. The two mega-powers project to own the division as long as they can keep their partnership going.
8. Guess who’s back
The Don Callis Family simply can’t drag the Continental Championship away from Jon Moxley. After pushing him to the limit over the past month, Konosuke Takeshita became the second member of his faction to unsuccessfully try to claim the belt from Moxley, joining Kazuchika Okada. Though that’s not to say Takeshita didn’t haul him to the precipice.
The bout was hard-hitting, with near-falls, emotions and a wrestler in Takeshita making a statement in his showing against Moxley. After both men traded what appeared to be finishing sequences, Moxley ultimately earned a referee stoppage when he couldn’t keep Takeshita down for the three count and the challenger refused to submit.
Following the match, after initially refusing his hand, Takeshita shook hands with Moxley as a show of respect. And after teasing a face turn in recent months, Moxley is right back in heel territory after Will Ospreay returned to avenge the group that put him on the shelf.
Ospreay’s return was enormous. Between the vignette and him walking onto the stage, it was a massive reaction fit for one of the promotion’s top stars. While he may be more immediately facing off against Moxley, there’s no question whether or not he should be the man holding the World Championship at the end of AEW All In when it returns to London later this summer.

9. A rowdy showdown
Since dropping their Blood and Guts match in November, Toni Storm has more or less had Marina Shafir’s number every step of the way. Shafir’s development in recent years has been exceptional, and the opening minutes of this match went a long way in proving she could stand one-on-one against arguably the top women’s wrestler in AEW.
Storm winning clean was a head-scratcher, as it deviated from the momentum Shafir could have gained with a victory against a talent the caliber of Storm. But Ronda Rousey’s arrival provided some clarity in where AEW goes from here. Shafir sucker-punching Storm after a brief Rousey staredown advances their rivalry forward despite the loss, and opens some fascinating paths forward for how "The Baddest Woman on the Planet" shows up in AEW.
It’s a near-certainty that Rousey doesn’t wrestle until after her mega-showdown with Gina Carano on May 16, which will air live on Netflix. AEW Double or Nothing airs live on pay-per-view about a week later, and depending how that return to the cage goes, perhaps there’s a world where Rousey has some level of impact there? The more likely route feels like Tony Khan saves a return to the squared circle for All In.
10. Fight forever
One of the best pure tag-teams in history against one of the most innovative teams ever? Yeah, they predictably put on a Match of the Year contender to open AEW Revolution.
FTR pulled out all the stops on the Young Bucks’ home turf as their families cheered them on. The teams balanced brutality with pace, poured buckets of blood, and challenged their own history with a match that may be their best.
FTR winning clean, followed by the arrival of Adam Copeland and Christian Cage, seemed to clear up where things are headed. But the Bucks returning as well to stare down Cope and Cage suggests there’s something in the works for the trio of all-time greats.
