Providence will not bring back Kim English as head coach next season, the school announced on Friday.

"We appreciate Kim and his staff for their efforts over the past three seasons leading our men's basketball team," athletic director Steve Napolillo said in a statement. "We wish him and his family all the best in the future."

English compiled a 48–52 overall record and a 23–37 mark in the Big East, failing to reach the NCAA tournament in his three seasons leading the Friars. This season, Providence finished with a 15-18 record and was seventh in the conference.

The Friars won their first-round game against Butler in the Big East tournament, but were eliminated on Thursday during a 85-72 defeat to St. John's.

English replaced former head coach Ed Cooley, who left in 2023 to coach Georgetown. Despite inheriting Devin Carter and Bryce Hopkins in his first year, English found the job at Providence to be much more challenging than anticipated. His most successful season was his first, when he led the team to a 21–14 record and an NIT invitation. Providence was one of the last teams cut from the NCAA tournament despite reaching the Big East semifinals.

Carter was drafted 13th overall in the 2024 NBA Draft after English’s first year. Hopkins struggled with injuries at Providence before transferring to St. John’s last offseason.

Before coaching Providence, English served as head coach at George Mason for two seasons. After going 14-16 in his first year there, he helped the Patriots improve by six wins the following season.
