CJI star Nick Rodriguez salvages draw at UFC BJJ 6, Cassia Moura wins title over Ffion Davies
· Yahoo Sports
Thursday night in Las Vegas, UFC BJJ 6 saw Mason Fowler avenge a previous loss to Pedro Machado in the main event. Fowler took a hard fought decision over three rounds, maintaining top control and winning more scrambles to defend his light heavyweight title.
The two biggest attractions on the card though involved undercard matches in Cassia Moura vs. Ffion Davies and Nick Rodriguez vs. Elder Cruz.

In the co-main event, Cassia Moura and Ffion Davies put on a show, with a high level, back-and-forth affair for three rounds. The two top pound-for-pound talents showcased each of their A-games throughout the contest. Moura incredibly hit arm drags from standing over and over, but Davies managed to keep scrambling and get on top to apply her trademark knee cut passing.
The entertaining bout genuinely could’ve gone either way, but judges awarded Moura the split decision victory to become the inaugural UFC BJJ bantamweight champion. Seeing her repeatedly hit arm drags over such a decorated champion like Davies was really impressive, and marks yet another accolade for the jiu-jitsu prodigy that already has two no gi world titles at just 20 years old.
The biggest name and marquee signee for the UFC BJJ 6 card was Nick Rodriguez. The CJI superstar looked to avenge a win against no gi world champ Elder Cruz, but started slow and seemed to have dropped the first two rounds. He came in on short notice, and didn’t look to have the same conditioning to past bouts.
Much like his clutch win at CJI 2 that clinched B-Team the $1 million prize though, Nicky Rod dug deep once again and stole the third round in a big way. He turned things up, diving hard on heel hook attempts until the final bell. It was the most eventful moment of the match, and two judges ended up giving him 10-8 scores in the third. Despite the slow start, this late attacks got him salvaging a majority draw.
