The San Francisco 49ers have a new wide receiver after reportedly agreeing to a contract with former Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Mike Evans.

But there's one problem: he and quarterback Brock Purdy wear the same jersey number and something has to give.
Of course, Evans has worn the No. 13 for his entire career, and the same can be said for Purdy, who dons the number because of his and his father's affinity for Dan Marino.
It remains to be seen if Purdy would be willing to give up his number to Evans out of respect. If there's any player who has earned a quarterback turning over their jersey number to them, it's the future Hall of Famer.
However, we just can't see that happening and instead we would expect Evans to opt for a fresh start instead of trying to buy the No. 13 off Purdy, which may not even be an option.
As far as what number he could switch to in San Francisco, it's hard to say. Evans also wore the No. 13 with Texas A&M, so it's a number he has worn for a long time.
Like many players, Evans could opt to just drop one digit from the number and go with either No. 1 or No. 3. That feels like the most logical choice.
That said, Ricky Pearsall already wears No. 1, so Evans might have to spend some money to get it if he wants it bad enough. No. 3 was owned by Brian Robinson Jr. last season, but he's a free agent, so that number could be available.
If we had to pick, we'd say Evans lands on No. 3.
