Frozen Four selection show unveils seed for Wisconsin women's hockey

· Yahoo Sports

The Wisconsin Badgers' 2-1 loss to Ohio State in the WCHA Championship proved to be enough to knock them out of the No. 1 seed in the Frozen Four.

ESPNU aired the Selection Sunday special, which revealed Wisconsin had earned the No. 2 seed, only behind the 34-4-0 Ohio State Buckeyes.

Wisconsin sits at 32-4-2 as it makes its 20th NCAA Tournament appearance. The Badgers won it all last year; they're now looking to win their ninth championship in 2026.

Being a No. 2 seed means Wisconsin won't have to play in the first round. They'll get an extra few days of rest before hosting either Quinnipiac (28-8-3) or Franklin Pierce (22-11-2) on Saturday, March 14 at 2:00 p.m. EST.

Rest of the Bracket:

  • No. 1 Ohio State vs. Winner of Yale vs. Minnesota Duluth
    • Winner plays No. 4 Minnesota or No. 5 Northeastern in the Frozen Four.
  • No. 3 Penn State vs. Winner of UConn vs. Princeton
    • Winner plays No. 2 Wisconsin or Quinnipiac or Franklin Pierce in the Frozen Four.

All first-round matches take place on Thursday, March 12. The second round commences on Saturday, March 14. The Frozen Four begins on Friday, March 20, with the National Championship following on Sunday, March 22.

This year's Frozen Four will be played at the Pegula Ice Arena at University Park, Pennsylvania. Should Penn State advance to the Frozen Four, it would have a huge advantage in getting to play on its home ice.

OSU has reached the National Championship in each of its last four seasons, winning it in 2022 and 2024. For what it's worth, Wisconsin came out victorious in 2023 and 2025 (the Badgers also won it all in 2021 and 2019; there was no tournament in 2020). Keep in mind, these teams have met in the National Championship for three straight years.
