QB Marcel Reed reveals how Texas A&M landed WR Isaiah Horton

· Yahoo Sports

Ahead of his third season leading the Texas A&M offense, redshirt junior quarterback Marcel Reed is making the most of the offseason before the Aggies begin spring football camp on Friday, March 20. This week, Reed appeared on former Texas A&M star quarterback and the program's second Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Manziel's Glory Daze Podcast to discuss the upcoming season and much more.

Outside of revealing that he and former Indiana Indiana quarterback Fernando Mendoza, who is expected to be the No. 1 overall 2026 NFL draft, worked out together last offseason, Manziel's curiosity led to asking the starting signal caller what led to the Aggies landing former Alabama wide receiver Isaiah Horton from the transfer portal, who was considered one a top 10 transfer additions who is expected to make an immediate impact.

Sharing a past relationship from their high school playing days in Tennessee, both players have stayed in contact since, as Horton started his college career at Miami before transferring to Alabama ahead of the 2025 season. Manziel asked Reed what excites him most about the new addition, revealing what led to Horton's decision to play his final collegiate season in College Station.

"Me and Isaiah kind of grew up together," Reed stated. "Played pee-wee football, grew up and we were kind of rivals in high school. I saw him enter the transfer portal, and I was like "woah." I hit him up, and I was like "hey.." He said, "the only way I'm hitting the portal is if I'm coming to A&M."

Reed went on to say that he immediately requested a meeting with former Texas A&M wide receivers coach and new offensive coordinator Holmon Wiggins, and "jumped on that horse right away," as Reed made his way back to College Station to meet with Isaiah Horton and his family, who were already in the process of helping their son move his stuff into his new home for 2026.

Texas A&M's 2026 wide receiver rotation will be led by junior speedster Mario Craver, while the return of Ashton Bethel-Roman and Terry Busey joins Isaiah Horton to fill out what looks like an elite starting lineup. Depth-wise, former five-star Jerome Myles returns from injury, while freshmen wideouts Aaron Gregory, Madden Williams, and Jayden Warren are all talented enough to crack the rotation.
