PREMIER SOCCER LEAGUE HONOURS RELEBPHILE MOFOKENG
“Relebohile Mofokeng of Orlando Pirates has been named the Betway Premiership Player of the Month for January/February,” the league announced.
Mofokeng bounces off a recent major dip at the start of the season. The slump between August and November 2025 stemmed from a mix of mental strain, personal changes, and injuries.
After a stellar season last term, constant transfer speculation began to affect Mofokeng. Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos said the attention “made him crazy,” disrupting the clarity that had defined his performances.
Analysts also pointed to the departure of close friend Mohau Nkota to Saudi Arabia, which shifted dressing-room dynamics and affected the player’s rhythm. Injuries also compounded the problem, interrupting training and limiting match sharpness.
Even on the international stage, a disappointing Africa Cup of Nations campaign dented Mofokeng’s confidence further. Altogether, the pressures, personal adjustments, and fitness setbacks explain why the player suddenly appeared out of sync after earlier dominance.
Coming up next for the School of Excellence product and Pirates is an away Betway Premiership clash at Polokwane City on Wednesday at 19:30.
