Atlanta-area police issue warning after martini found in child's lunchbox

Atlanta-area police are telling parents to check their kids’ lunches after a canned martini was found in a student’s lunchbox, CBS News reported.

The South Fulton Police Department released a photo of a Cutwater Lemon Drop Martini that a child brought to school by accident last week. The canned cocktail was in the lunchbox next to a Lunchable and a pack of Doritos.

“Before you send them babies off to school… CHECK. THE. LUNCHBOX,” the police department wrote. “Because why are we getting reports of juice boxes sitting next to… Cutwater margaritas?? That is NOT Capri Sun. That is NOT Apple Juice. That is a whole ‘Parent had a long night’ starter pack.”

‘Does NOT belong next to a PB&J’

According to Cutwater’s website, its canned lemon drop martini contains vodka and is 11% alcohol by volume.

“If it says 12% ABV… it does NOT belong next to a PB&J,” police said on Facebook. “Check the lunchbox before the school resource officers gotta do inventory at recess.”

South Fulton police said that the incident did not happen in the Fulton County Schools system, but added they wanted to raise awareness about alcoholic drinks being packaged like non-alcoholic ones.

“The real takeaway here is awareness,” they said. “Across the country, there’s growing concern about alcoholic drinks being packaged to look like non-alcoholic ones and even being placed near them in stores, which can lead to honest mix-ups. Friendly reminder to: Double-check lunchboxes and backpacks; keep alcohol stored safely and out of reach; talk with kids about only drinking what a trusted adult gives them.”
