Insider names Jaguars' free agent Devin Lloyd 'ideal fit' for NFC team

Coming out of the NFL combine, Jacksonville Jaguars' free agent linebacker was mentioned as an "ideal fit" for a specific NFC team in free agency.

ESPN's Jeremy Fowler and Dan Graziano emptied their notebooks recently with everything they had heard during NFL combine week.

When discussing the Panthers, Fowler mentioned that we shouldn't be surprised to see Carolina make "some big moves on defense."

"The Panthers will be looking at edge-rush help and might be open to offering a lucrative contract," Fowler wrote. "They need linebacker and slot corner help, too. Devin Lloyd would be an ideal fit in the middle of the defense."

Lloyd put together a career year in 2025, making his first Pro Bowl, along with being named a second-team All-Pro.

In Anthony Campanile's defense, Lloyd did a bit of everything, making an impact in coverage with five interceptions, in the run game, and as a blitzer.

PFF is projecting that Lloyd lands a three-year deal worth $48 million. Spotrac is projecting that Lloyd earns more than $20 million per year on his next contract.

Given the Jaguars currently tight salary cap situation, retaining Lloyd could be challenging. At that point, addressing the linebacker position could then become a greater priority for James Gladstone this offseason.

In the event that Lloyd heads elsewhere, Gladstone's level of urgency to address this unit may come down to how confident he is in Ventrell Miller, Jack Kiser, or Jalen McLeod stepping into a starting role next to Foye Oluokun, or if he believes more competition is needed.
