The New York Yankees will be a dozen players short in the coming weeks in Spring Training.

That's because 12 Yanks are leaving camp to take part for their respective countries in the World Baseball Classic. The WBC gets underway in the week ahead.

There will also be two Yankees coaches involved: Brad Ausmus is the bench coach for Team Israel, and Tanner Swanson is the bench coach for Team Great Britain.

It's certainly an awesome honor for everyone involved.

Yankees in the WBC

The Yankees will have players representing six different countries in the World Baseball Classic, a total of 12 players across those rosters.

It breaks down like this:

  • United States: Aaron Judge, David Bednar, Paul Goldschmidt
  • Dominican Republic: Austin Wells, Amed Rosario, Camilo Doval
  • Puerto Rico: Elmer Rodriguez, Fernando Cruz
  • Great Britain: Jazz Chisholm Jr., Brendan Beck
  • Panama: Jose Caballero
  • Israel: Harrison Cohen

Chisholm can play for Team GB because he's from the Bahamas, which is a British Commonwealth realm.

Cohen is likely the least-known player on the above list. He's a minor league relief pitcher who had a 1.57 ERA at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre last season.
